Red-tailed Hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk can be seen perched along a highway or soaring and circling upwards watching for squirrels, rabbits and other small creatures.

It is widespread in the United States and Canada, however its plumage is quite variable between races. This one is an Eastern Red-tailed Hawk with the typical rufous tail. This life-size bird won 1st in Advanced Raptors at the Ward World competition.
